I have always worked freelance when not in TV or another role. Some of these projects were commission-based, others were done voluntarily for charities and independent creatives.

Logo & icon designs

  • Logo for Twitch Affiliate SnaffDude

Nate Jones was looking for an artist who could make a fun, personalised logo of himself for his Twitch streaming brand, preferably with his three cats involved. I had a really good time working with him to come up with something characterful and distinct that stood apart from more conventional “streamer” art styles. A later project in November 2021 had me designing and animating “digital decor” for his streaming interface in time for Christmas, which you can see below.

  • Logo for Musician Jed Robertson

Jed Robertson, a session guitarist and composer, needed an insignia for his personal brand. He wanted something clean-cut and legible, but marked with substance and texture.

  • DD Created it - 2018

An illustration for Daryl Amber Davis, maker of home decor pieces. She requested specifically that she resemble an animated character holding one of her favourite accessories. Overall, a fun style to work in.

  • Make It Soph - 2017

Sophie Alexandra Lewis is a self-employed artist and fellow alumni who wanted an illustrated portrait of herself for her social media. Bright colours, a Star Trek font (owing to the pun of her online handle - “Make it Soph”), and my interpretation of one of her best-known models. She can be found on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

The Word Forest

  • In the words of the Word Forest themselves, they “plant trees, build schools, facilitate education & support women's empowerment”. They are a UK-based initiative with a number of associate group members living and working in Bori, a region in Kenya.

For more information on their constant hard work and dedication to a great cause, please click the button below.

  • My previous client, Jed Robertson, works as their composer and digital media specialist. He mentioned the need for thumbnails on their Instagram’s highlight reel; I volunteered a few icons forward and they were happy to use them.

In 2020, I had the opportunity to remotely admit a piece into an exhibition hosted by the Arch Café in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The aim of the show was to raise funds for the Blue Dragon Children Foundation, a charity dedicated to the support and rescue of children and young adults in crisis in Vietnam. The theme of the show was “decay”, and we were permitted to interpret its meaning however we wished.

My proposal was to illustrate something figurative in the style of my more experimental painted work, which is rougher and more intuitive. I sought to combine human forms, animals, and mythological ambience together; skulls, old jewellery, faces, corrosion, archaism are topics that have long captured my attention and sparked my imagination. With a keen interest in old civilisations, particularly those of Brythonic, Greek and Assyrian origin, I fixated on some of these aesthetics in preparation for my entry. The end result was a homage of sorts to ancient Mesopotamian lamassu, archaic spirits of protection personified in grand sculptures and stone reliefs.

In lieu with the theme of decay, I wanted my piece to speak of of the passage of time and deterioration of ancient art.

Red Herring Theatre

  • A Christmas Carol - 2018

Penarth-based amateur group Red Herring Theatre do annual shows in several favourite venues across the UK, Penarth Pier and Manorbier Castle to name a few.

For their rendition of A Christmas Carol, a full illustration of a wintery Dickensian skyline was requested. It’s not often I work on briefs that involve architecture, but the end result is one I’m especially satisfied with.

  • Clue on Stage - 2020

Having crown up on Cluedo, their next poster design was one I was particularly pleased to be working on. A lineup of distinctive characters each holding a signature weapon from the game? Iconic.

Sadly, the show was not able to take place in early 2020 due to COVID.
